    About Me and My
    Therapeutic Approach

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves”. Victor Frankl

Hi there! I’m Sean Butler, a licensed clinical social worker in Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Florida, and Maryland. I’m truly glad you’re here, taking the first step towards well-being.

Since opening my private practice, I’ve experienced deep personal growth and expanded my therapeutic approach by integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS), Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA), and Gestalt therapies into my own life. These modalities have provided me with profound insights that enhance my work with clients.

I believe emotional well-being issues—whether depression, anxiety, addiction, or bipolar disorder—often reflect unmet needs or a loss of purpose. For example, depression can stem from needs not being met or feeling a lack of purpose, while anxiety may arise from fear of the unknown. With bipolar disorder, I focus on harnessing its positive attributes to equip you with tools for a fulfilling life.

My practice is person-centered, warm, and inviting. I blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychoanalytic perspectives, mindfulness, and meditation to create a safe and engaging space for growth.

After a first career as a stationary engineer in power plants, I followed a calling discovered during my own therapy (thank you, Dee!) and returned to school. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology from DeSales University and a Master’s in Social Work from Marywood University.

Originally from Royal Oak, Michigan, I spent my early years in England before settling on the East Coast. Recently, my wife and I moved back to Pennsylvania, where I continue to split my time between private practice and community work.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and walking with you toward whatever goals you want to achieve. Until we meet, take good care!
